CO2 laser treatment

Dr. Myers is a board-certified dermatologist skilled in the resurfacing of skin, both on the face and body. If you want to improve the appearance of your skin, laser skin resurfacing may be right for you. We have several different laser technologies that can be customized to deliver maximal results for your skin type. During this procedure, a high-energy beam of laser light is used to improve the texture, tone, and overall appearance of your complexion. It also stimulates formation of new collagen, which smooths and tightens the skin with long-lasting, non-invasive treatment.

Laser resurfacing can be performed on the entire face, including upper and lower eyelids, as a great alternative to surgery. This procedure can also treat sun damage and loss of elasticity on the neck and chest, giving a more youthful, lifted appearance. Many patients find that laser treatments can decrease or alleviate the need for surgical intervention. The results are long-lasting, and with proper sun protection, can persist for many years. Other uses for laser resurfacing include improvement of acne scars, surgical scars, or stretch marks.

In addition, a series of chemical peels and microdermabrasions can also deliver a smoother, more refined texture to facial skin. These treatments will decrease fine lines, pores, brown spots, and acne scars, and can be used in combination with laser treatments. Dr. Myers always likes to have her patients maximize the results of skin resurfacing treatments with an at-home skin care regimen. She and her staff can customize a treatment plan for you based on your skin type and skin concerns to deliver the results you want.

Dermaplaning is a mechanical exfoliation in which we use a sterile, stainless steel blade which at the proper angle not only exfoliates and removes villus hair, additionally aiding in the absorption of topical products. Dermaplaning can be added to almost any aesthetic service or stand on its on for an instant result. Dermaplaning is a safe yet effective treatment that can be done on almost any skin type and any age.

Dermaplaning helps to diminish fine lines and wrinkles, stimulates collagen synthesis, helps to minimize pore size, and improves skin texture.

Dysport® Cosmetic is a recent introduction to the cosmetic industry’s line of FDA- approved wrinkle treatments. This product was first developed in the United Kingdom in the 1990s, and has been used in more than 60 countries for treatment of various conditions and disorders. Like Botox® , Dysport® Cosmetic is derived from botulinum toxin and is used to treat so-called “dynamic” wrinkles, which occur as a result of facial movement, such as frowning or squinting.

Treatment with Dysport® Cosmetic takes only 10 to 20 minutes; involving injections of tiny amounts of the special solution beneath your skin, directly into the muscles that cause dynamic wrinkles to form. In most individuals, 3 to 5 injections of the product are required in each area to achieve satisfactory results. Like any injection, there may be some slight discomfort with Dysport® Cosmetic treatment. Dr. Myers can apply a topical numbing cream or ice to make you more comfortable during the procedure.

The initial results of Dysport® Cosmetic are visible very soon after treatment with optimal results visible in a matter of days. Some studies have reported that Dysport® lasts 1 to 2 months longer than Botox; however, each patient's result varies. One can expect the Dysport cosmetic® to last an average of 4 months. Repeated courses of treatment prolong the results.

Dysport CosmeticDysport CosmeticDysport Cosmetic

Dysport® Cosmetic is very well-tolerated and side effects are minimal. In some patients, there may be slight bruising or swelling in the injection site, as well as some minor, temporary discomfort. Over-the-counter pain relievers such as aspirin, ibuprofen, and aleve should be avoided one week prior to the procedure to minimize bruising. You can ensure the best results possible by discussing your goals and expectations with Dr. Myers prior to treatment with Dysport® Cosmetic.

Aging and sun exposure decrease the volume and elasticity in our skin over time. Facial fillers are injectable cosmetic products approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to help fill in facial wrinkles and restore a smoother appearance. We offer Restylane, Restylane Lyft, and Radiesse® in our office. Dr. Myers and her staff will discuss your goals and concerns during your consultation. We will then be able to recommend the ideal filler to correct the wrinkles or volume loss of your skin.

Fillers are ideal to correct:

  • Nasolabial folds and Marionette lines (deep folds of lower face)
  • Thinning or small lips
  • Dark circles or volume loss of lower eyelids
  • Restore cheek volume
  • Overall volume restoration of face

Restylane® and Perlane® are sterile gels consisting of stabilized hyaluronic acid. Medicis, the manufacturer, states that it is biodegradable and safely and completely metabolized by the body. Restylane® and Perlane® injections are given to correct facial volume loss and fill in deep facial folds. These products have been approved by the FDA for correction of facial wrinkles in the nasolabial area (nose-lips) and the fold between the cheek and nose/upper lip ("on-label use"). Restylane® is also used to enhance the appearance of lips.

Bellafill is a collagen filler with microspheres that can instantly smooth facial wrinkles for a more even beautiful younger looking skin. Once Bellafill is injected volume is immediately added and the microspheres support your body’s own collagen. Bellafill has been proven to be the largest and longest prospective dermal filler ever, cases have shown to last up to 5 years. Bellafill is a simple, in-office treatment with little to no downtime. Exilis Skin Tightening

Exilis is an innovative skin-tightening system that can add contour to your face and neck, while taking years off your appearance. It is also indicated for tightening and contouring any area on the body safely and naturally with lasting results. Exilis is ideal for our busy clients because it requires no downtime and no anesthesia—most patients find it to be a very relaxing experience.

Exilis uses radio frequency to deliver deep, thermal heat to the eye, cheek, jowl and neck areas. This will promote remodeling of collagen and tightening of the skin for a natural enhancement. In as few as four treatments, skin appears tighter, and curves of the cheekbones and throat appear more contoured. The procedure can also be used to contour and tighten exercise-resistant areas such as the abdomen, arms, and legs.

The system utilizes one of themost advanced delivery systems on the market; a hand-held applicator that the operator massages over the client's’ skin. The massaging motion, combined with deep thermal heat, make Exilis feel more like a relaxing, restoring spa treatment than a cosmetic procedure.

Each area needs, on average, only 20 minutes of treatment per session. We recommend four to five treatments spaced one week apart. Results are long-lasting and have been proven to last at least 8 months. Occasional repeat treatments are recommended to maintain maximal benefit. A consultation is required before beginning an Exilis treatment regimen. You can schedule yours today—we are eager to show you what Exilis can do for you!

Exilis is performed by a licensed aesthetician of the Myers Dermatology staff, under the supervision of Dr. Jennifer Myers.

 IPL(Intense pulsed light) Photofacial

  • Clears facial veins and redness, brown pigmentation
  • Treats hemangiomas, port wine stains
  • Fewer treatments and higher patient satisfaction

Dr. Jennifer Myers is the first physician in the Lafayette area to offer the state-of-the art Palomar Icon™ Aesthetic System for her patients. This system offers the next generation in powerful Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) technology to remove even the most persistent facial redness and dilated veins. It is even superior to pulsed dye laser treatment. The MAX G™ treatment works by sending a low-energy beam of light directly into the affected skin, while maximizing both patient comfort and safety at all times. Facial redness, dilated veins, hemangiomas, port wine stains, unwanted pigmentation (melasma), dull skin tone, and fine wrinkles can all be improved with fewer, more comfortable treatment sessions!

For many patients frustrated with topical and/or oral medications to treat rosacea or melasma, IPL is the preferred treatment method for long-lasting results. These laser and light therapies can be used alone or in combination with other lasers and/or with skin fillers. Patients are often amazed that IPL offers such dramatic results with no downtime!

What does it feel like?
It is generally described as tolerable discomfort. Some patients say it feels like warm pinpricks or rubber band snaps on the skin. We do offer topical numbing cream and ice to make our patients feel more comfortable during treatment if needed.

How many treatments will I need?
On average, most patients should expect 3-5 treatments spaced about 4 weeks apart. A recent clinical study showed 83% of patients experienced reduced redness, 75% had less flushing and improved skin texture, and 64% reported fewer acne-like breakouts after five treatment sessions. Patients often notice marked reduction in dilated blood vessels and brown pigmentation after only one or two treatments.

Am I a good candidate?
Dr. Myers will evaluate your skin and treatment options with you during your visit. If you are considering IPL, it is important to keep a few points in mind. While some patients experience dramatic results and these can be long lasting, IPL does not cure rosacea or melasma. You still need to continue to see your dermatologist for further IPL treatment and avoid your personal rosacea or melasma triggers. Sun avoidance and daily sunscreen use are extremely important! Patients who have a clotting disorder, keloid history, or insulin-dependent diabetes are not candidates for IPL due to decreased wound healing and increased infection risk. Also, it is not recommended during pregnancy.

Realistic expectations are essential. Most patients do see improvement; however, with any medical procedure there is always the possibility that you will only see a minor change. Dr. Myers can determine if you are a good candidate. To date, dermatologists have found that people with lighter skin who limit their sun exposure after the procedure tend to have better results.

Why is sun avoidance so important?
Sun exposure can dramatically cause or worsen both rosacea and melasma. This is why some patients suffer from both conditions. IPL treatment success depends on several factors —skin type, condition of your skin, lifestyle, and the amount of sun exposure you get following the procedure. For example, not protecting your skin from the sun after treatment can provoke a strong reaction and possibly worsen your skin condition.

How much does it cost?
Typically, IPL treatments are not covered by medical insurance. On some occasions, insurance has covered IPL treatment for either severe rosacea or facial razor bumps (a condition called pseudofolliculitis barbae in men). You can expect an average of 3-5 treatments spaced apart every 4 weeks for optimal results. Follow-up treatment may be necessary to maintain the results, however, this usually is only once or twice yearly. Please call our office at 337-456-3323 with any questions or concerns. We are here to help you make an informed, confident decision.

KYBELLA® (deoxycholic acid) injection is the first and only FDA-approved injectable treatment that contours and improves the appearance of submental fullness, sometimes referred to as “double chin”. The active ingredient in KYBELLA® is deoxycholic acid, a naturally-occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected into the fat beneath your chin, KYBELLA® causes the destruction of fat cells. Once destroyed, those cells cannot store or accumulate fat.

The average patient needs 2 to 3 treatments spaced 6 weeks apart. Once the desired aesthetic response is achieved with KYBELLA®, retreatment is not expected.

Laser Hair Removal

Lumenis® Lightsheer™ Laser

Lumenis® Lightsheer™ LaserWhat is laser hair removal? Men and women alike can now make unwanted facial or body hair a thing of the past and forget about painful waxing, electrolysis, and razors. Dr. Myers performs laser hair removal for patients using gold-standard technology far beyond that of other lasers. Our LightSheer hair removal system is a non-invasive laser that generates intense, long-pulsed light through an actively-cooled hand piece to decrease and even eliminate unwanted hair growth. The laser's cold hand piece is gently placed on the skin, as pulses of light are delivered from the laser. When the light penetrates the skin, it selectively damages the root of the unwanted hair on all parts of the body including the cheeks, legs, arms, underarms, and back, as well as sensitive areas like the ears, nose, chest, nipples, and bikini line.

How effective is it? The percentage of hairs removed per session varies in different body locations, with areas of thick skin (for example, bikini and armpits) generally showing a better response than areas of thick skin (for example, back and chin). Approximately 10-25 percent reduction in hair regrowth can be expected with each treatment. Treatments are repeated every four to eight weeks. The hair that re-grows tends to be lighter and finer in texture.

What does it feel like? It is generally described as tolerable discomfort. Some patients say it feels like rubber band snaps on the skin. We do offer topical numbing cream and ice to make our patients feel comfortable during treatment if needed.

How many treatments will I need? As many as five treatment sessions spaced about one month apart may be required to achieve significant permanent hair reduction. Treatments may then be needed once or twice a year to gradually and permanently eradicate more and more hairs. Darker hair responds best, while lighter hair is less responsive. Tan skin does not respond as well as fair skin and may require more treatments. Topical medications can be used in an effort to increase the receptiveness of lighter hair to the laser treatment. You are required to shave the area prior to the day of treatment.

What are possible side effects? Side effects of laser hair removal may include pain, swelling, and redness lasting one to three. Blistering, cold sore outbreaks, and bacterial infections can also occur. Temporary skin lightening or darkening, especially in darker skin types, or in patients with a recent tan, may be seen. Permanent skin pigment change or scarring is very rare. Loss of freckles or lightening of moles in the treated area may occur, as well as darkening/lightening of tattoos.

Why is it important to see a skin specialist for hair reduction? This procedure should be performed under the direct supervision of a physician. Dr. Jennifer Myers is a board-certified dermatologist who specializes on in the treatment of skin, hair, and nail disorders and is an expert in hair removal methods. We perform laser hair removal in our office on a daily basis as a safe procedure with amazing results.

A: Latisse is the only FDA-approved eyelash treatment to date for the following uses: inadequate lashes, longer lashes, fuller lashes, darker lashes. Latisse must be attained through prescription only.

Q: Can I wear contacts when using Latisse?
A: You should not wear contacts while administering the treatment. Instead, remove your contacts before a Latisse application and wait fifteen minutes before putting them back in
